AI and the new researcher hierarchy of needs

Room 2 | 10:00 am - 10:30 am | Wednesday, May 3, 2023

The AI revolution isn’t coming; it’s already here. And if you’re a researcher who hasn’t experimented with AI tools, you’re already behind.

It’s a business truth that organizations are trying to do more with less and make well-informed decisions at speed. With greater mandates to become agile, the “old way” of ad hoc and disconnected data isn’t enough. Organizations are ensuring that data and insights exist all around the organization, so that every team is empowered to make data-backed decisions. The days of “insights” being the realm of a single team are over; the proverbial democratization of insights is happening today, with or without the traditional “insights team.”

Language learning models (LLM) like ChatGPT are in the mainstream and uniquely capable of powering this democratization, which poses an existential threat to insights professionals.

We’re at an inflection point. Researchers must either up-level themselves and learn to work with AI, or risk being automated out of their roles.

In this talk, Julio Franco, chief customer officer at Zappi and lifelong researcher, will provide tactical insight into:

  • How AI will intercept every stage of the research process.
  • How to best use generative AI as a research tool to drive quicker better insights that impacts their business, not get replaced by it.
  • How to build proficiency with working with generative AI to stay ahead of the game.

In the AI era, researchers need to re-think their hierarchy of needs and learn new skills in order to work alongside AI and elevate their roles in the organization. Franco will discuss how to build a strong foundation of hard and soft skills to be able to work with LLM in the future.

Key takeaways:

  1. Business mandates for innovation are changing, and the status quo of using research to answer your most pressing questions is no longer enough. Instead, businesses need to connect data from the past to influence the future; AI is enabling this shift.
  2. Understand how the role of the researcher will change the day-to-day and long-term roles of the insights professional.
  3. Practical tips and tricks for achieving fluency with AI tools and how to up-skill yourself to cement your value in the organization.
